Melvin Bliss - "Synthetic Substitution" '73 - sampled by the best of the best!

The record, especially the drums, have been sampled on at least 50+ songs including some of the greatest and most hyped old school hip-hop tracks ever. Gang Starr's DWYCK, De La "Potholes", PE "Don't beleive the hype". Naughty by Nature "OPP", Redman, Pharcyde, Souls of Mischief, RZA, Pete Rock, Ice T, NWA, Nice n Smooth, Biz, Boss, The Roots, etc, etc, etc...

But one of the first groups to use it in '86 was the Ultra Magnetic MCs for "Ego Trippin". This track is a forever super super super classic old school hip-hip track that I will never get tired of.

Adrian Younge and the Black Dynamite Sound Orchestra "Shot Me In the Heart"

Caught this on FB the other day via the Black Dynamite feed. Haven't seen the movie yet, but it's currently number 7 on my Netflix queue. This song is dope...love the way they captured the old soul vibe. I'm guessing they may have recorded it on old equipment to get that authentic sound, but one never knows with today's technology. Enjoy...

Eddie Henderson "moon" '79

After a hectic fast paced Tuesday and another hectic fast paced day on the horizon I'm chilling in my home lab aka "the cave" and relaxing to this mellow joint by Eddie Henderson while I catch up on all sorts of shit...emails, FB, non-work work, music, etc...

Then...at 9 I'll be tuning into http://www.djscratchradio.com/ to hear the greatest party DJ of all time DJ Kid Capri! I'd suggest you check it. He's one of my favorite DJ's of all time and I'm sure he'll impress listeners tonight.

Feeling these 2 Non Phixion joints...

These aren't new...but I'm rocking out to both of these joints today on my b-day. They represent the two emotions I'm thinking about on this b-day morning: "Say Goodbye to Yesterday" & "Rock Star"

"Say Goodbye To Yesterday" - we're not promised tomorrow...

"Rock Stars" (Produced by DJ Premier) - This joint gets me hyped and Premo laced it. This is how we'll be rolling tonight!

Remember "Chip Fu" from the Fu Schnickens?

Chip Fu...the cat who carried the Fu-Schnickens back in the day before Shaq sabotaged the groups career...LOL! Like six years ago I read an article that he was working on an album with Wise Intelligent from PRT and I got excited, but I never heard anything about it since then...it could be a dope album. Well, Chip Fu aka "Jungle Rock Jr." is still doing his thing. Here's a bunch of stuff he's been doing. I'd be pretty excited if he dropped an LP.

The most known piece of recent work was with Pete Rock "Ready Fe War":

The originals..."The Lockers"

Not a style of dance I practice...I can do a little, but it's one that deserves the respect it deserves. People still practice it. The original and long standing crew The Lockers started and made it popular by performing all over in the 70s from Soul Train to Saturday Night Live, to the main stream TV sitcoms.

It's top of mind because the founder of the dance and the group The Lockers Greg "The Campbellock Jr." Pope just passed.

Fred Berry aka "The Penguin" aka "Rerun" from What's Happening was an original member of The Lockers became famous on the tv show What's Happening. Fred passed in 2003.

Many would also recognize original member Adolfo "Shabba Doo" Quinones from the movies Breaking and Breaking 2 as he played the character "Ozone".

Here's some old clips of the crew...

Marvin Gaye "T Stands for Trouble" '72. This is a great track by Marvin and for those who haven't heard it...there are no vocals? Surprising considering he's mostly known for his singing. Enjoy...

It was sampled by a few (see below).

I can't live my live my life this way....

For starters I HATE HATE HATE HATE Kanye West. I hate his Nike's and almost everything that comes out of his mouth. He's a phony rapper...twisting words to make the rhyme when they don't...but I do think he's a good producer (credit where due). Just wish he would produce and shut the F up and I hope to get he chance to punch him in his big mouth forcing him back into the wire.

With that said...Dilated no longer brings the heat like they used to either, but I've felt this song they dropped together for some time...since it dropped and still feel it. With that said I'm saying this is my anthem for a while and if that makes me a hypocrite I'll deal with it. But I'm just saying things need to change and I'm looking forward to make shit happen. Nuff said:
